Welcome to Year 3 :)
Class Teacher - Miss Allemann
Class TA - Mrs Proctor
Welcome back to school and well done for settling in so fantastically well. This term our topic is Gods and Mortals
In English, the children will be using the text ‘Greek Myths’ by Martia Williams as inspiration for their writing. This will also help the children to build links with their topic work.
In English, the children will be studying Greek mythology. Through this text, the children will explore features of mythology and will develop their writing skills, focusing particularly on sentence structure, in order to write their own myth. The children will have the opportunity to write a non-chronological report about a Greek god or goddess and start looking at different forms of poetry. As well as improving our sentence structure skills and structure of our writing, children will continue to edit and evaluate their own work using purple pens of perfection. Alongside their home readers, the children will be developing their
comprehension skills through guided reading and class discussion about a variety of novels and text types. They will be learning to check their understanding of what they have read by asking questions as well as beginning to summarise ideas from more than one paragraph.
In Maths, the children will continue to develop their understanding of multiplication and division. They will also be developing their mental maths skills, paying particular attention to recalling number facts quickly and accurately. Children will expand their knowledge and understanding of money and perimeter through practical and written work, and will develop their understanding of statistics.
Across all of these areas of Maths, children will be required to apply their skills to problem solving.
As scientists we will be looking at forces and magnet conducting lots of practical work into how forces affect us and why magnets are useful.
