Curriculum Statement for the Implementation of Art and Design Technology

To deliver a high-quality art and design education that inspires and challenges pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.

Our aims in Art, Craft and Design Technology are to produce creative pieces of work whilst exploring ideas and evaluating finished work, to become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques and evaluate and analyse creative work and to understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

Children will develop their techniques further in KS2, including their control and use of materials, developing creativity, experimentation and an increasing awareness of different kinds of art, craft and design. Where possible, links are made across the whole curriculum, in particular with Literacy, History, Geography and RE. Differentiation is through outcome and support given. Children often bring in pieces of work they have completed from home or research they have carried out on a particular artist.

All classes are taught Art, Craft and Design Technology on a weekly basis. The school uses Art Base to support work undertaken at KS2. .All year groups produce work for a class display boards and Art Club is carried out once a week with year groups from KS2.

This subject area is enriched through the weekly focused teaching through professional artist from Art base.
