At Mickleton Primary School, we believe that language is fundamental to the overall development of the child and enables their access to the curriculum in all its aspects. We encourage reading for meaning, fluency, accuracy and pleasure, to increase independence and confidence.
In Year One, we have daily phonics lessons which follow the school's Read Write Inc scheme. In these lessons your child will learn sounds to help them decode words and increase their fluency to become a confident reader.
On Mondays and Tuesdays we have reading fluency lessons which are centred around the 6 Ps:
On Thursdays and Fridays, we use Reading VIPERS to help children comprehend a text.
