Here you will find useful information about what we are intending to learn during the next half term, further information about homework and
pictures of some of our activities.
P.E. will take place on a Monday and Wednesday so please ensure that full P.E. kits are in school on these days. Children should bring a named water bottle every day.
This half term we will be exploring the Anglo-Saxons and Scots! We will be exploring where, when and why they first invaded Britain, all about their Gods, the impact they had on modern life and also investigating some artefacts and archaeology.
In our English lessons we will be studying 'The Jabberwocky' by Lewis Carroll, including writing our own poetry and writing non-chronological reports. Following this we will be focusing on writing to persuade and will be creating our own adverts!
In Maths this half term we have a variety of topics to cover including: addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, tables including timetables, negative numbers, solving problems, area and perimeter, reflections and translations, fractions, decimals and percentages and finally angles. These will all be revision sessions of things we have already covered, but not completely understood during the year.
In Science this half term we are going to be learning about famous Scientists and Inventors and some of the work they have done including links back to some of the topics we have already covered and we will also be completing investigations linked to these famous people.
Children will also continue to enjoy listening to an end of the day book. This half term the book will be 'Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters' by request!
A different homework activity and spellings will be sent home on a Friday each week. Homework should be handed in by the following Wednesday at the latest, along with spelling sentences and spellings will be tested each Friday.
If possible try to read with your child every day and record this in your child's reading record book. Also times tables should be being practised at home. Children in Year 5 are expected to know all times tables up to 12 x 12.
